Philander in doubt for New Year's Test
Vernon Philander could be in doubt for the New Year's Test against New Zealand after a flare up of his left hamstring during the first-class match between Cobras and Titans at Newlands.
Philander bowled five overs and took a wicket before leaving the ground to have scans. Although the results have not come yet, the injury usually requires "at least seven to 10 days rest," according to Mohammed Moosajee, the South African team manager who is also a medical doctor.
"We will have to wait to see the severity of the damage but that is the minimum recovery time although it could need up to three weeks," Moosajee told ESPNCricinfo. "Vernon has had this previously and it seems as though it has just come up again."
The first Test starts in 12 days' time, on January 2, so if Philander's injury is only mild, he will be cleared to play.

*********South Africa admit Tsolekile u-turn**********
Andrew Hudson, South Africa's convenor of selectors, has admitted his panel told Thami Tsolekile he would play the Test series against New Zealand before going back on their decision. Their stance had to be reversed when AB de Villiers decided he would like to continue in his new role as keeper-batsman.
Hudson's acknowledgement comes after Tsolekile revealed he was "disappointed," at being left out of the squad and confused about the reasons for his exclusion. Tsolekile spoke to various media outlets in the last few days and expressed his concern over the administrators not following through with their promises.
"I wasn't expecting to play in England because I knew that I went there as a substitute when Mark Boucher was injured and I had no expectations at all. When I packed my bags for Australia, I also knew I was going to be the back-up keeper," Tsolekile told ESPNcricinfo. "But before that tour, the selectors told me I would get a chance against New Zealand, especially if things go well. When I spoke to them again, I was getting different messages. There's nothing I can do now. I'll just keeping doing what I am doing for the Lions."
"After the tour to Australia, AB came back to us and said wants to continue keeping wicket because he is enjoying it. That was not the case six months ago. AB's interest in doing the job meant the situation was different."

Re: Thread for New Zeland Tour of South Africa, 2012/13
Lonwabo Tsotsobe, the left-arm pace bowler, has been ruled out of the three-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand which starts on Friday with an ankle injury.
Dr Mohammed Moosajee, the South Africa team manager, said: "Lonwabo complained of pain to his ankle yesterday during practice after bowling 10 balls. He was sent for an MRI scan which revealed bony bruising of the talus bone at the back of his ankle joint.
"The medical committee feel it will be best if he doesn't take part in the current T20 series, recommending a two to three week rest period along with consultation with an ankle specialist."
Tsotsobe joins Wayne Parnell, a fellow left-armer, on the sidelines after he was ruled out of the series with a wrist injury. No replacement has yet been named for Tsotsobe with Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Ryan McLaren, Rory Kleinveldt the other pace options in the squad.
