Re: Thread for Pakistan Tour of South Africa, 2012/13
Fast bowlers Mohammad Irfan and Ehsan Adil are among five players who have been called up to the Pakistan Test squad for the tour of South Africa, which begins at the end of the month. Batsmen Nasir Jamshed and Haris Sohail, and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed were the other inclusions who were not on the Test tour of Sri Lanka in June and July 2012.
The players left out were wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal, fast bowlers Aizaz Cheema and Mohammad Sami, batsman Mohammad Ayub and Afaq Raheem.
Asad Shafiq, who had missed the limited-overs tour to India due to a finger injury, has recovered and is back in the national team. Left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman, who was banned by the ECB during last year's county season for failing a dope Test, also returns to the squad.
Adnan, who has been Pakistan's specialist wicketkeeper and has played 16 Test matches between 2010 and 2012, was reportedly dropped for being unfit. However, Adnan is currently playing the ongoing first-class tournament and has scored 243 runs at 121.50. Interestingly, none of the Akmal brothers - Kamran, Umar and Adnan - feature in the squad.
Adil was part of Pakistan's Under-19 team at the 2012 World Cup Australia, where they made the quarterfinals. Sarfraz last played a Test for Pakistan in 2010, in Hobart. His last ODI was in Colombo in June 2012. He was out of action due to finger injury, but in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy he is the leading wicketkeeper with 13 dismissals.
Pakistan play three Tests in South Africa, in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Centurion. The first Test begins on February 1.

Re: Thread for Pakistan Tour of South Africa, 2012/13
Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan's Test vice captain, has urged the PCB to schedule more Test matches for the national team because he believes it is the format that helps produce quality cricketers. In the last five years, Pakistan have played 35 Tests, more than only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. England, in comparison, played 63.
"It's unfortunate that we get less Test matches," Hafeez said in Karachi. "We played three Tests in January [2012] and then three in June, and again after six months we will play in South Africa, which is hard on us. I would urge the board to take up this issue and try to schedule more Test matches for us because I believe players only develop by playing Test matches.
"Test cricket produces good quality cricketers, like we have found Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq. We need to promote Test cricket but if we play only six Tests in a year then it will be tough. I think PCB needs to fight for more Tests in the next fixture because you get quality cricketers from Test cricket."
According to the ICC's FTP, Pakistan are scheduled to play 88 Tests between 2012 and 2020. They will play ten Tests in 2013 and then face a five to six-month break before hosting Australia for three Tests in October 2014. Pakistan have had to play their home Tests at off-shore venues such as England and the UAE after the Sri Lankan team was attacked by terrorists in Lahore in March 2009.

Yes Shaun Pollock left the captaincy after that match vs lankans at 2003 world cup
Gary Kirsten was closing in on retirement
They gambled with smith instead of making kallis or boucher captain

Re: Thread for Pakistan Tour of South Africa, 2012/13
The PCB has decided not to continue with Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former Pakistan batsman, as the team's batting consultant for the tour of South Africa for which the team departed on Sunday morning. Inzamam was supposed to travel for the tour but ESPNcricinfo understands that the PCB did not approach him.
Inzamam was appointed for the role just before the team's short limited-overs tour of India. He helped the team prepare for the tour but did not travel to India with them due to his commitments with a TV channel. However, he was committed to go to South Africa. Even though there was no written agreement between the PCB and Inzamam over covering the South Africa series, both had an understanding to carry out the deal.
"We have engaged the services of Inzamam ahead of the India tour," PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf had said last month on appointing Inzamam. "He won't travel to India with the team but will help the batsmen in the camp as batting consultant. He will be part of the touring unit that goes next year to South Africa."
