Big blow for Royal Challengers Bangalore as their prime opener and inform batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out from the 10th edition of Indian Premier League starting from April 5. Due to shoulder injury, Rahul will not be available for the 2017 IPL and will fly to England next week to have an operation of shoulder which was injured during Border-Gavaskar series few days back.

IPL 2016 has been quite an eventful season this time around. While it was the good things that people took note off, there were some sad events as well that caused controversies. With an aim to make IPL 2017 an even bigger hit and avoid many of those man made issues, listed further are 5 improvements that we would wish to see in IPL 2017 – after all it is Cricket that wins in the end.

1.No signing off the players – IPL 2017

Somewhere around the mid-season of 2016, many of you must have heard that teams have signed off players (read as younger players) from the team. Mainly because all the teams has chosen their key 18-20 players and were sure that the rest wouldn’t get a chance to play. But our question is – was giving youngsters a chance to play the only reason IPL was formed? No.

Even if a youngster doesn’t get a chance to play, he still gets to share the dressing room with the likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and many others. The experience of sharing the dressing with such talents is no less than learning by playing a game. Therefore, from IPL 2017 no player should be signed off (unless there is a valid reason).

2.Introduction of Bonus Points – IPL 2017

We saw teams winning from huge margins this season. Be it a win in less than 15 overs or win with a margin of over 100 runs. Huge wins like these can’t be appreciated by net run rate alone. It can rather be appreciated by awarding an additional bonus point to the winning team.

This will not only make the tournament more exciting, but also keep all the teams in the fray for the play-offs spot till the very end. As we were sure that each match will only fetch two points this season, there wasn’t much excitement left for teams at 7th and 8th spot. But with an opportunity to get that additional point, players would go all out in crunch situations.

3.Alternative to Duckworth-Lewis Method – IPL 2017

If there is one rule that has been in controversies in the sport of cricket across all the formats – then that is Duckworth / Lewis or the D/L Method. This method is said to offer an advantage to the chasing side. Latest person to lash out at the use of this method was former New Zealand Captain Stephen Fleming. We feel a need for look out should begin throughout the world to come up with a more reliable method at times of rain/delay.

4.Decision Review System – IPL 2017

One man who had been unlucky in IPL 2016 was Quinton de Kock. Couple of times he was wrongly given out and on both occasions, DRS or Decision Review System could have saved him. DRS system has been opposed mainly by Indian team and the BCCI, as it is not reliable to get accurate decisions.

With BCCI being one of the richest board of cricket, we expect them to invest in a technology that is better than DRS. With so many technological advancements, it is now time for India to be leaders than followers. If something is not good, let’s build something better, test it at one of the biggest platforms – IPL. This will make the sport error-free and more exciting as we get to see fair results.

5.Mid-Season Transfer Window – IPL 2017

How many matches did the likes of Dale Steyn, Trent Boult, Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, Imran Tahir get to play this season? Hardly any. But these players could any day be featured in any of the world’s best teams. To ensure that players of such caliber don’t get wasted – we suggest to have a Mid-Season Transfer Window.

Dale Steyn wasn’t fitting into the combination of GL team, then he could have easily been transferred to a team like RCB who badly needed a pace bowler and they ended up singing Chris Jordan in the end. Introducing this system will make the team management value their players and chose only the right players for their team.

These are the 5 changes that we propose to bring in to the rulebook of IPL 2017. All the suggestions mentioned above are personal and you are completely free to share your views on the same and also suggest if t

Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane, opposing captains in the final India-Australia Test earlier this week, came prepared to face the barrage of questions from the media.
Though Thursday’s event was meant to welcome England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes — a buy worth Rs 14.5 crore for Rising Pune Supergiant — with Smith and Rahane presenting the all-rounder with a team-shirt, it was more an opportunity for the media to quiz the two with questions relating to the just-concluded series that had its share of acrimony.
Smith, who continued to pound India with the bat but lost quite a few admirers with his conduct in the series, was an obvious target of the scribes. But he proved equal to the challenge.
Ready for the IPL

In the background of Virat Kohli’s views that some of the Australians in the team were no longer his friends, the RPS skipper was asked whether he thought one among them, the man offered a straight bat: “The series is done and dusted for us. India outplayed us and won 2-1. For me, I am moving on from that now and I am ready to take the reins of this IPL team and get into this tournament.”
Rahane was asked whether he accepted Smith’s invitation of have a beer after series-victory on Tuesday, the soft-spoken batsman said, “We had our own get-together in the dressing room, I was busy there. We were enjoying each other’s company. It was a well-fought series. They played really well in India. But for all of us, we played good cricket throughout the season. I enjoyed the moment.”
Even as Smith and Rahane repeatedly side-stepped the core questions, team owner Sanjeev Goenka was not too far behind. For instance, his response to why M.S. Dhoni was stripped of captaincy, the response, intentionally or otherwise, had very little to do with the question.
“A lot has been written about the captaincy. Whenever I have interacted with Mahi, I have learnt something new. He is one of the sharpest brains I have interacted with. I have deep respect for him as an individual, as a player and as a leader. I am one of his biggest fans. This is a new season, a new captain, there’s complete unity and complete togetherness in the team, so wish us well. We have a great squad. We have the potential to perform well.”
Personally, Smith saved the day when he cut out all diplomacy while responding to a question, whether the presence of three other captains — Dhoni, Rahane and Faf du Plessis — in the squad made it any easier or difficult for him.
“(When there are) Plenty of captains floating around, I think it’s important not to have too many sorts of opinions, If I want something or they want to say something, they can come up to me. If there are opinions coming from all fronts, it can cloud your judgement or what’s going on in your mind. I’ll try to stay as clear as possible. It’s difficult sometimes when you so many people around.”
Stokes, who seemed to enjoying himself, said he did not expect the IPL auction to go the way it did. “Even if I had just brought on my base price, I would then also have tried to perform exactly the same way. I would try to win as many games for Pune. That’s what we play the game for, to win the games. Try and do well for the team.”

Here's a compiled list of all the injury updates:
1. Virat Kohli
Ruled out of the Dharamsala Test against Australia after injuring his shoulder in Ranchi, Royal Challengers Bangalore's captain Virat Kohli is a doubtful starter for IPL 10.
After sitting on the sidelines for the four days of the final Test against the Aussies, the Indian captain had suggested his shoulder strain would take a “few weeks” to heal.
It's still a few weeks to go before I can be 100 percent on the field.
Virat Kohli
Kohli has been been a part of RCB since the IPL's first edition in 2008, and lead the team to the final in 2009 and 2011.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a practise session, RCB coach Daniel Vettori said that the team's medical staff would decide on 2 April if Kohli could start for the team. If he doesn't, then AB de Villiers has been named as the replacement skipper. If the Proteas' batsman will be available to play the opening fixture, is another question altogether.

2. KL Rahul
If Virat Kohli's absence wasn't enough to hurt Royal Challengers Bangalore's campaign, Friday morning was a bad start for the team as the news of KL Rahul's injury made the rounds.

While the cricketer scored India's winning runs in the series decider against Australia, sources within the team revealed that Rahul will soon be travelling to London to undergo surgery on his left shoulder that he had injured during the series opener in Pune.

After he played for RCB in 2013, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Rahul for Rs 1 crore in 2014. He then returned to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 season, where he was the team's third highest run-scorer with 397 runs in 12 innings.
The franchise is yet to officially announce Rahul's absence and name a replacement for IPL 10.
3. AB de Villiers
Another RCB star AB de Villiers may too be ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The South African batsman who was supposed to play for Titans in the Momentum One Day Cup final on Friday, was ruled out of the match due to a back injury.
In his 120 IPL matches, he has scored 3,257 runs at an average of 39.24 with 21 half centuries and 3 centuries.
Has the Indian Premier League Lost Its Mojo?
4. Ravichandran Ashwin
The long Indian home season wasn't going to hurt just the RCB camp with Ravi Ashwin too likely to miss the IPL due to a sports hernia. He is expected to be out of action for the next six to eight weeks.
Ashwin is the second player after Mitchell Marsh from the Rising Pune Supergiant camp to withdraw his name from the tournament.

Ashwin had first injured himself after the Test series against England in December and had then pulled out of the Tamil Nadu's Ranji Trophy semifinal.
Indian opener Murali Vijay might also miss the IPL due to a wrist and shoulder injury he had been carrying throughout the season.
R Ashwin Joins IPL Injury List, Ruled Out for 6-8 Weeks: Reports
5. JP Duminy
Delhi Daredevils' South Africa star Jean-Paul Duminy withdrew from the upcoming edition of the IPL on 20 March, just 16 days before the start of the tournament.
The batting all-rounder pulled out of the tournament owing to 'personal reasons', said the franchise's official press release. However, Duminy, along with the rest of the South African team, has also had a busy cricket season which continues till after the Champions Trophy.
A regular member of the Delhi Daredevils squad since 2014, Duminy is the franchise's fifth-highest scorer with 1015 runs in 38 matches at a strike rate of 130.79. He also led the team in the 2015 IPL edition and captained the side in two matches in last year's season.

Bangladesh become the fourth team -after West Indies, Ireland and Sri Lanka – to reject travelling to Pakistan in the last two years. (Source: AP)
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has turned down the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) proposal to send its national team to Pakistan for two-match T20 series sometime before July this year.
The BCB has also denied the PCB’s offer to compensate them after Bangladesh refused to tour Pakistan due to security concerns.
Confirming the news, BCB’s media and communications committee chairman Jalal Younus said, “the reports were not satisfactory enough due to which we had to pull back.”
After successfully hosting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Lahore on March 5, the PCB had earlier this month sent a proposal to their Bangladesh counterparts to play two T20s following the 2017 Champions Trophy in June.
However, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan recently said that although his side are keen to host Bangladesh, the chances for the same are not bright.
“We want to host Bangladesh but its chances are not bright. Some of our friends think they may tour but I feel they will not because of political concerns more than security concerns. But during ICC meeting I will speak to my Bangladesh counterpart and may re-negotiate our tour to Bangladesh this year and ask them to compensate us for not touring Pakistan,” Shaharyar had said.
On their last visit to Bangladesh in 2015, the PCB had reportedly taken 325,000 dollars and justified it by saying taht the series had “technically” been Pakistan’s home series.
This year, the BCB has rejected all proposals to share revenue although they were open to playing at a neutral venue if needed.
With this, Bangladesh become the fourth team -after West Indies, Ireland and Sri Lanka – to reject travelling to Pakistan in the last two years.
Pakistan has not hosted any international cricket tournaments since the terror attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009.

India got the better of Australia 2-1 at home. (Source: AP)
Recalling a run-in with Virat Kohli, former Australia opener Ed Cowan on Friday said he once felt like picking up a stump and stabbing the current India captain after being told something “highly inappropriate”.
India got the better of Australia 2-1 at home in one of the most intense but bitterly-fought series in recent years.
Top-notch cricket aside, the series was marked by one controversy after another with the two captains – Kohli and Steve Smith – in the eye of a raging storm.
Cowan was quoted as saying by Fox Sports, “I had a very sick Mum during one of those series and he said something that was inappropriate. “Why I make the point of ‘lost in translation’, he said something that was highly inappropriate.
A personal matter that was highly sensitive. Highly inappropriate. But he didn’t realise that he’d overstepped the mark until the umpire came over and said — ‘Virat that’s overstepped the mark’ — and once that was said, he took a step back and apologised. “But, there was a moment I wanted to pick up the stump and stab him.”
The Australians have been targetting Kohli ever since he stopped short of calling Smith a ‘cheat’ following the DRS drama, involving the visiting skipper, in the second Test at Bengaluru.
Cowan, who scored 1001 runs in 18 Tests with a best of 136, added that he is a big fan of the Indian.
“I’m a huge fan of his cricket. Don’t get me wrong he’s a phenomenal cricketer. “I had a little bit of a run-in that was inappropriate when he toured Australia and the umpire had to intervene. “We forget that English isn’t their first language. It’s very easy to sit back and say as a player they’re barking something at me that is inappropriate when we don’t try and converse with them in Hindi.”

President Pranab Mukherjee confers the Padma Shri on Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday. (PTI)

‘God has been kind,” tweeted Virat Kohli after receiving the Padma Shri from President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. Kohli has led the Indian cricket team to successive Test series win at home in recent times.

Congratulations poured in for Virat Kohli, who missed the fourth and deciding series against Australia in Dharamsala recently. Ajinkya Rahane had led India to a 2-1 series win in Kohli’s absence.

Rio Olympics badminton silver medallist PV Sindhu led the kudos for Virat Kohli. Sindhu will clash with Saina Nehwal in an India Open Superseries quarterfinal in Delhi today.

Virat Kohli has been the primary target of the Australian media in recent weeks. Kohli’s comments on his relationship with Australian cricketers has generated a lot of controversy. The Padma Shri award should bring the focus back on more cricketing and civic matters as the Indian Premier League is just five days away.
Apart from Virat Kohli, Paralympian Deepa Malik and hockey captain P.R. Sreejesh were honoured with the Padma Shri.
Besides Kohli, Sreejesh and Deepa Malik, five other sportspersons were named for the prestigious Padma Shri when the honours list was declared on the Republic Day on January 26.
The list included Rio Olympics bronze medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Paralympian Mariyappan Thangavelu, discus thrower Vikas Gowda and blind cricket team captain Shekhar Naik.
The dignitaries presented on the occasion were vice-president Mohammed Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Rising Pune Supergiant cricket team captain Steve Smith speaks during a press conference in New Delhi Thursday. Steve Smith has taken over the IPL team’s captaincy from Mahendra Singh Dhoni.(AFP)

Australia skipper Steve Smith may have just ended a draining Test series against India, finishing on the losing side, but he won’t brook any unsolicited advice as he begins his leadership role with Indian Premier League side Rising Pune Supergiant.
Steve Smith was a slightly controversial appointment to lead the new fracnchise in place of MS Dhoni, the former India skipper who has only played as captain in the previous nine IPL editions.
The RPS team owner, Sanjiv Goenka, said on Thursday at a team news conference that the change was ‘amicable’, having earlier explained that the change was made in the best interests of a team that had finished seventh out of eight teams on its debut last year.

NUMBER OF LEADERS
Asked about the switch to IPL and playing with three other captains, Steve Smith first said he looked forward to interacting with the different leaders. “Centrally, it will make my job easier,” he said.
“The IPL will be beneficial to me. There are a lot of international players and I will get to share the dressing room with them. I will know what people from different parts of the world are thinking,” Smith said.

However, when pressed about whether he would welcome constant inputs from the seniors -- Ajinkya Rahane and England all-rounder Ben Stokes were also in the podium -- he was categorical.
“There are plenty of guys to talk to, but it is important not to have too many opinions. If opinions are coming from left, right and centre, it can cloud your judgement,” Smith said.
“I’ll try to stay as clear as possible, but it can be difficult sometimes if there are too many opinions.”

TOUGH TEST SERIES
Steve Smith also shares captaincy duties in Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, but will lead a side with Dhoni, South Africa’s Test and T20 skipper, Faf du Plessis as well as Rahane, who led the team in the injured Virat Kohli’s absence in the final Test in Dharamsala.
Smith was a prolific scorer in the Test series, aggregating 499 runs with three centuries. His leadership was largely praised, especially in the way he motivated a young side after solid preparation ahead of the series.

However, he was involved in a couple of controversial incidents. He admitted ‘brain fade’ after being found seeking dressing room help to decide on a DRS review in the Bangalore Test and then apologised for losing his cool -- a video showed him abusing Murali Vijay for claiming a catch in Dharamsala that was turned down on a TV review-- at the end of the match.
MS Dhoni had played in the IPL only as captain for nine years before he was replaced by RPS owner, Sanjiv Goenka. Smith will have plenty of captaincy challenges as India’s match-winning bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin, is also part of the team.
Australia’s elaborately laid plans for India seemed to click initially when they won the first Test in Pune but Virat Kohli’s men roared back to clinch the series 2-1.
There was plenty of acrimony with Steve Smith one of the prime characters as words were exchanged on and off the field. However, barely 48 hours after the final Test, there was an attempt to calm things down.
If Smith took the initiative to play down talk of animosity between India and Australia players, Rahane two showed the equations had changed within 48 hours of the series ending, whispering to Ben Stokes not to reveal any bowling plans after he was asked about his tactics on batting pitches.

With only a few days left for the 10th edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) to begin, the craze among the fans has reached its peak.

Along with new season of IPL, full on entertainment pre and match talk show ‘Extraaa Innings T20’ will return.

But this time, hotness level will be reduced as anchors of last year season Rochelle Rao and Pallavi Sharda will not be a part of the entertainment show due to prior commitments.

Model Archana Vijaya, who had been a part of IPL in 2015 is now back and will be anchoring the Extraaa Innings T20 alongside Gaurav Kapur and Samir Kochhar.

Archana will be moving throughout the country, looking for untold stories of cricketing legends.

“It’s exciting to be back in the 10th year of the IPL. I’ll miss my two other female anchors but it’ll be nice to have the focus on me though the work will be double. Bring it on, I’m game!”, Archana was quoted saying as per the reports in Mumbai Mirror.

After Dharamsala Test, Steve Smith had reached out to IPL teammate Ajinkya Rahane and the Indian team, offering a round of beer.
After a hard fought Test series which India won 2-1, Australian captain Steve Smith had reached out to IPL teammate Ajinkya Rahane and the Indian team, offering a round of beer. Smith, who apologised for letting emotions get the better of him throughout the series, also had a brief chat with India's stand-in captain for the Dharamsala Test, but the Mumbaikar didn't accept the offer.
In a Rising Pune Supergiant press conference held on Thursday, Rahane said he could not accept the invitation for beers with the Australians as he was busy celebrating with his own teammates in the Indian dressing room.
"We had our own celebrations together in our dressing rooms and I was busy there. It was a very well-fought series and we had to enjoy after long and successful season," Rahane said.
Looking ahead to the IPL after a gruelling Test series, Smith said, "It will be great to have so many great leaders from different countries, it's a big plus and not a hindrance."
Like Smith, Rahane too said that it was time to leave the Test series behind and look ahead to the Indian Premier League. "It was a well -fought series and we all played good cricket. Credit goes to the Australia for the way they played. But I believe in staying in the present. My focus is on the IPL now," said Rahane.
