South Africa rightly the best side - Clarke
"I don't want to take anything away from South Africa," Clarke said. "They showed why they're the No.1 Test team in the world. On the other hand I want to pay credit to the Australian boys to be able to fight it out so tough and stay strong up until this Test match. What South Africa showed us is when they had momentum, they ran with it for as long as they possibly could and when they didn't have [it], they did everything in their power to fight their backsides off to try and grab it back.
"There's probably a few occasions throughout the series where we had momentum and didn't run with it for long enough, that's for sure. Against these teams, the best teams, you can't afford to do that … There's plenty of pros and cons and that's something we need to do over the next few days, to assess where we continue to improve and the positives we can take from this series, the areas we need to get better if we want to be the No.1 team in the world."

Michael Clark on his way to break Yousaf's record
Michael Clark has a great year (2012) so far, he has scored four double centuries in this year, and become the first ever batsman to do this. Clark has scored 1,358 runs so far with the help of four double centuries. Due to his brilliant performances, people are comparing him with GREAT Donald Bradman.
Not only Clark become the first ever batsman to score four double centuries in a calender year, he is also eyeing to break Pakistan Muhammad Yousaf's record of most runs (1,788) in a calender year, that he made in 2006 when Pakistan hosted West Indies.
Muhammad Yousaf over took West Indies' Sir Viv Richards' record, which had been unbroken for 30 years. Yousaf needed 588 runs to break the record in 3 Tests and he scored 665 runs, which is most runs by a Pakistani in 3 match Test series.
Just into his 9th Test of the year (2012), Michael Clark scores 1358 runs. Clark needs 431 runs to break the record of most runs in a calender year. To achieve this milestone , he has two Tests remaining (vs Sri Lanka). Yousaf scored 665 runs in three Tests while he needed 588 runs to break the record; Clark needs 431 in 2 Tests to break the record.
Michael Clark will have 11 Tests this year, the same number of matches Yousaf played in 2006 and Viv Richards in 1976.
For all these action, we have to wait for the Australia vs Sri Lanka series.

dont wanna make a DEBATE
but i can say Sachin Tendulkar can MATCH WITH DON
because Donald Bradman never played in any other ground except England Australia
Donald Bradman played only on ENGLISH AND AUSsies sOIL which both are Same pitches and almost Equal
Don averaged 99.94 in 80 innings all of them in HIS HOME TURF(ENGLand VEry SIMILAR TO AUS)
Where as Tendulkar scored runs against each and every team
He played in every team
got runs every where
some times its hard to say but Sachin is better than Bradman as well
Scoring 99.94 in HOME also a tough ..there has to be a lots of talent to do that
but scoring at 45+ in every COUNTRY is also a Talent and that cannot be neglected.

AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST EVER TEST DEFEAT WAS 675 RUNS AGAINST ENGLAND IN FIRST TEST OF ASHES SERIES IN 1928-----> Interestingly that WAS THE DEBUT TEST FOR THE GREAT SIR DONALD GEORGE BRADMAN ..
he Scored 18 and 1 in both the innings of that Test Match
that was the ONLY TIME Bradman scored less than 50 runs in a TEST MATCH even after PLAYING 2 INNINGS.
Dean Elgar got a PAIR ON DEBUT BUT STILL HE TASTED a SUCCESS..
Hopefully a bit of fortune that Hastings didnt have such a bad debut as Bradman

NOT ONLY ITS AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST DEFEAT, IT IS THE BIGGEST DEFEAT FOR ANY TEAM IN TERMS OF RUNS IN TEST HISTORY.AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST EVER TEST DEFEAT WAS 675 RUNS
UNFORTUNATELY BRADMAN WAS ALSO PART OF BIGGEST TEST DEFEAT IN TERMS OF BY AN INNINGS, BRADMAN DID NOT BAT IN BOTH INNINGS BECAUSE OF INJURY WHILE BOWLING AND AUSTRALIA LOST BY AN INNINGS OF SOME 570-575 RUNS.

Describing Australian great Ricky Ponting, who retired from international cricket, as his favourite, India batsman Yuvraj Singh on Monday said he was amazed by the attitude of the lion-hearted player.
“Sad Ricky Ponting has retired! But was amazed with his attitude on the field… a lion hearted player! Specially the way he fielded,” tweeted Yuvraj
“One of my fav(ourite) and greats of the game has retired! So long punter (Ponting) u were a treat to watch. Last big motive for younger guys would be the Ponting innings of 140 in the world cup final (2003) against India (that) took the game away from us,” read Yuvraj’s twitter post.

outh Africa captain Graeme Smith thinks home advantage will give England the edge in the first of two Ashes series against Australia next year.
Uniquely qualified to comment having just led his team to a series win in England followed by Monday's triumph in Australia, Smith said he was choosing his words carefully given his location. "I think the challenge for Australia is going to be winning in England," he told reporters after South Africa's 309-run win over Australia in Perth secured them the three-match series 1-0.
"I think (England) do play well in their own conditions. They know how to win there and to be able to adapt and play well there is going to be the challenge for Australia. "They certainly have the players but from a mindset point of view, I think being a home series for England, I guess they'd have to be favourites."

Re: Thread for Craziest Series of the YEAR (AUS VS SA) (2)
Ricky Ponting is "one of the true legends of the sport" the International Cricket Council (ICC) said of the former Australia captain who ended his test career on Monday.
"His contribution to the international game has been immense and quite rightly he will be remembered as one of the true legends of the sport," ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said in a statement. "Ricky was a team man but along the way collected many personal accolades and is the only player to have won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year at the LG ICC Awards for two years in succession (2006 and 2007).
"We wish him well in the next stage of his career and look forward to his ongoing involvement in the game beyond the boundary," Richardson said.

Re: Thread for Craziest Series of the YEAR (AUS VS SA) (2)
The overall batting average for the series was 41.18 runs per wicket, which is the highest in the 25 series that these two teams have played. The last time they played, in 2011-12 in South Africa, the average was 26.77, which is the second-lowest. The 12 hundreds scored in the series is also a record for these two teams in a three-Test series.

Michael Clarke was outstanding, scoring 576 runs in five innings. It's the highest by a batsman in a three-Test series between these two teams. Ironically, the second-highest is 515 in the 2005-06 series in Australia. The other Australian batsman who stood out for his consistency in the series was Michael Hussey: in five innings, he topped 50 three times, and averaged 59.

Re: Thread for Craziest Series of the YEAR (AUS VS SA) (2)
In this three-Test series, there were 2 batsmen who scored more than 100 runs against a bowler: Clarke dominated Morkel, scoring 154 off 164 balls, & getting dismissed only once, while de Villiers scored 101 off Lyon. Clarke also scored 91 off 125 for 2 dismissals against Steyn, which means his average vs South Africa's two best bowlers of the series was 81.67.
On the other hand, though Hussey had a superb series overall, he struggled against these two bowlers, scoring 111 and getting dismissed five times - an average of 22.20.
The only bowler to dismiss a batsman more than three times in the series was Lyon: he nailed Rudolph four times in 100 balls, conceding only 28 runs. Lyon was thus singlehandedly responsible for ruining Rudolph's series: against all other bowlers, Rudolph scored 46 runs off 103 balls, without being dismissed once.
