1.England's 2-1 series win is their fourth overall in India and their first since the 2-1 win in 1984-85. In four series in between, England won one Test and lost six. England also ended India's eight-year unbeaten home series run. The last series defeat India suffered was against Australia in 2004. England are also the only team to come back from a match down to win a series in India. In their previous series win in 1984-85 too, England lost in Mumbai but came back to win the Delhi and Chennai Tests.
2.England have now won six of their last eight Tests against India. Their fourth series win in India takes them level second with Australia on the list of teams with the most series wins in India. West Indies are on top with five series wins. The series win is also England's second in 2012. Earlier this year, they lost to Pakistan and South Africa and drew in Sri Lanka.
3.Alastair Cook's series aggregate (562 runs) is his second-highest. Cook's aggregate is also the seventh-highest by a visiting batsman in India and the third-highest by a visiting captain after Clive Lloyd's 636 runs (1974-75) and Kim Hughes' 594 runs (1979). The number of deliveries faced by Cook in the series (1285) is the highest for a visiting batsman in India.

4.James Anderson, who won his fourth man-of-the-match award, finished level with Ian Botham on the list of England bowlers with the most international wickets (528). Botham, however, did so in 42 fewer matches.
5.The England spinners picked up 39 wickets in the series. This is the fourth-highest number of wickets picked up by visiting spinners in a series in India and the highest since 1969-70. Graeme Swann became only the third England spinner after Derek Underwood and Hedley Verity to pick up 20 wickets in a series in India.
6.The run-rate in the match (2.27) is the fifth-lowest in a drawn Test since 1990 (min 400 overs in the match). However, it is the lowest in a Test in India in the same period.
7.Sachin Tendulkar finished with 112 runs in six innings in the series. The average of 18.66 is his worst in a series of four or more Tests. In 18 innings since the start of the Perth Test, Tendulkar has scored 236 runs at 18.15 with one half-century.

Re: Thread for England Tour of India, 2012/13 (2)
Cook put the 2-1 series win alongside the accepted pinnacle for an England player - victory in the Ashes. "It is obviously a very special day, a special tour," he said. "I think it is on a par with the Ashes. As an Englishman winning in Australia after so long meant a huge amount. But to be in that that dressing room there for that last half an hour knowing what we had achieved was a very special place and it will live long in my memory."
"We have played on four very different wickets," he said. "We didn't handle the Ahmedabad wicket so well, but the other three wickets were all very different in sub-continent style. Everyone in this squad can be proud of what they achieved, especially the way we bounced back after the heavy defeat in Ahmedabad.
"I was surprised at the level we managed to achieve so soon after Ahmedabad to be honest with you. I was talking about playing to our potential but I was surprised we managed to do it straightaway and put all those doubts to bed and prove to ourselves that we could bat in these conditions."
"After the first game in Ahmedabad it would have been so easy to let head drops, but we showed a lot of character in Mumbai," he said. "I think the fact it was a result wicket in Mumbai really helped us.
"It freed us up knowing that one way or another there would be a result and that people weren't expecting us to win. Once we got over that mental hurdle and were able to trust our ability on these wickets with the bat we certainly made a big leap forward."
As the tour developed, Cook got the support he needed from senior players in the dressing room: Kevin Pietersen, the integrated version, looking content with life; Matt Prior, as big an influence on England as Adam Gilchrist once was on Australia; James Anderson, proving himself in India as a skilled practitioner on demoralising surfaces for fast bowling with old ball and new; and the ever-garrulous Swann, delighted to have a partner in crime in Panesar.
"They are big characters in the dressing room," Cook said. "The support they have given me, I couldn't have asked for anything more. To captain those guys can be tough in certain circumstances, but you want that, you want a lot of ideas and strong opinions because that is when you normally get the best thinking done."
Nagpur was the oddest test of all, a pitch that was strikingly slow and uneven at the start and which gradually became more docile, a perfect surface for an England side prepared to bat with discipline to avoid defeat and so win the series.
"We were slightly surprised by the pitch at the start, how low and slow it was," Cook said. "We thought it would get worse but actually it got better. We knew when we were batting in the second innings it was going to be very hard for India to take those wickets and if we applied ourselves with not too many soft dismissals it would be very hard to bowl us out."
"I can't credit the batters enough for fronting up and taking on that challenge. Normally there are a few nerves on day like this but the calm way that Trotty and Belly batted was just fantastic. You can say it's a flat wicket but when you know you have to bat for 150 overs a series win seems a long way away."

"It has been tough," Dhoni said after the draw in Nagpur that gave the series to England, "But there are not many things that will come close to when we lost the 2007 50-over World Cup. This is not even close to that."
4-0 in england, 4-0 in australia, out of asia cup, out of cb series,2-1 loss to england now
and still This is not even close to debacle of world cup 2007 where they lost to bangladesh and sri lanka only.

Re: Thread for England Tour of India, 2012/13 (2)
England have rested fast bowler James Anderson and batsman Jonathan Trott from the ODI series in India in January and replaced them with Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler.
"Woakes and Buttler replace Anderson and Trott in the India ODI squad as the selectors look to manage workloads," the ECB said in a statement.
Anderson had originally been selected only to play the first three matches of the five-ODI series, but he will now miss the entire contest after playing an important role in England's 2-1 victory in the Test series in India.
Woakes, who is currently playing domestic cricket in New Zealand, has played six ODIs, taking seven wickets at 29.14 and scoring 72 runs. Most of scalps came in one innings when he claimed 6 for 45 against Australia in Brisbane. He spent a lot of time around the squad during 2012 without commanding a regular place.
Buttler, the 22-year-old Somerset batsman, only has one ODI cap under his belt. In that match, against Pakistan in Dubai, he collected a second-ball duck.

Flower proud of England's revival
An ability to "learn and adapt" has been identified by Andy Flower as the key to England's series success victory in India.
"I don't know if lost focus is quite the right phrase to use," Flower said, "but if there are degrees of hunger and desire perhaps we dropped off a couple after getting to No 1.
"We had a tough time in the UAE against Pakistan at the start of the year, and one of the most satisfying things at the minute - certainly for me, and I'm sure for the players - is that they've shown they can score runs. We've come out here and very importantly shown that this bunch of cricketers can learn and adapt.
"They have proved they have learned a lot. For some of the older players, guys that have been around and have excellent Test career achievement, that is testament to their humility and their maturity to continue their learning into this phase of their careers. They have still adapted their game and shown their game can improve. It's taken a lot of hard work, a lot of thought and a lot of skill out there in the middle. They should be very proud of themselves.
"We certainly refocused on this challenge in India. We knew we would have to display that we have learned certain things about the game of cricket in these conditions if we were to prevail so it's nice to see that has happened. I certainly wouldn't describe it as a year of decline."
Flower credited Alastair Cook as a key figure in England's success.
"That innings at Ahmedabad was vitally important as a lead," Flower said. "It provided evidence that runs could be scored if you use your brain, if you've got a reasonable method, if you show courage and discipline. He did that and for the captain to do that was especially important. He has been very influential in the series. We are very lucky to follow a quality bloke like Andrew Strauss with a quality bloke like Alastair Cook as leaders of the England side.
"I said to him I thought tactically he has been excellent - and you can't always say that about English sides in the sub-continent. I think he's been a good observer of the opposition, and what works for them, and he's used some of that to our advantage."
There was also praise for Kevin Pietersen who returned to the squad for this series having been dropped following revelations about his poor relationship with his England team-mates.
"He has been excellent since he has been back with the England side," Flower said. "The guys have enjoyed having him around and he has fitted in really easily and everyone has made an effort to make it work. It has worked.
"He has played superbly. I thought his innings in Mumbai on a difficult, turning track was one of the better innings I have seen played against spinners in those type of conditions. It was a very, very skilful innings; even more skilful after he had struggled in the first Test because that piled a certain amount of pressure on him. So for him to handle that pressure, turn it round and then dominate the opposition as he did was great testament to him holding his nerve."
"We've had up-and-down results," he said. "We didn't play that well against the spin in the UAE, but we've also done some superb things.
"We became number one in one-day international cricket; we drew an important Test series in Sri Lanka, and won one against the West Indies. And then we lost to a very good South African side in England. I don't think there is any embarrassment in that. That happens in international sport."
