Suraj Randiv
Full name: Hewa Kaluhalamullage Suraj Randiv KaluhalamullaSuraj Randiv
Born: January 30, 1985, Matara
Major teams: Sri Lanka, Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, Chennai Super Kings, Kandurata, Matara Sports Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Rahula College, Ruhuna, Sinhalese Sports Club, Sri Lanka A, Sri Lanka Under-15s, Sri Lanka Under-19s
Also known as: Suraj Mohamed
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Height: 6 ft 0 in
Education: Rahula College, Matara
Relation: Brother - MM Rasmijinan
Suraj Mohamed is another in the line of Sri Lankan spinners. He is now recognised as a good offspinner, but Suraj began his career as a right-arm fast bowler at junior level. When his school found that they had no spinner in their Under-15 side, the coach requested him to switch over to bowling offbreaks. Starting as a part-time bowler, he was soon picking up wickets on a regular basis and started representing Matara SC while still at school. Twenty-three wickets in four matches in the U-23 tournament in 2003-04 did not go unnoticed by Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene, who brought him over to SSC. He benefited immensely in the presence of Atapattu and Jayawardene, learning how to bowl under pressure and to different fields.

David Warner
Full name: David Andrew WarnerDavid Warner
Born: October 27, 1986, Paddington, New South Wales
Major teams: Australia, Australia A, Australia Under-19s, Delhi Daredevils, Durham, Middlesex, New South Wales, Northern Districts
Nickname: Lloyd
Playing role: Opening batsman
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Legbreak
Height: 1.70 m
A diminutive and dangerous opening batsman, David Warner exploded onto the international scene in 2008-09. His breathtaking effort of 89 from 43 balls in his Twenty20 debut against South Africa at the MCG was all the more remarkable as he was the first man to walk out for Australia before playing first-class cricket since 1877. His call-up had been a surprise and it capped off an eventful couple of months in which he also earned an IPL contract with Delhi Daredevils and a deal to use a two-sided bat. The rewards had come after he began the summer in dynamic fashion with a then New South Wales one-day record of 165, and followed it with 97 from 54 balls in the FR Cup, proving his success was not a one-off. His 390 runs in that competition came at a strike-rate of 129 and an average of 55.71.

Umar Akmal
Full name: Umar AkmalUmar Akmal
Born: May 26, 1990, Lahore, Punjab
Major teams: Pakistan, Lahore Lions, Pakistan Under-19s, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited
Playing role: Middle-order batsman
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Fielding position: Occasional wicketkeeper
Relation: Brother - Kamran Akmal, Brother - Adnan Akmal
The runs didn't cease to flow for Umar Akmal, the younger brother of Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran and Adnan, in his maiden first-class season. In a triumphant 2007-08 for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, Umar failed to score in his first outing but then went on to amass 855 runs from nine matches in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, at an average of 77.72 and an impressive strike-rate of 90.18. He showed a penchant for both brisk and big scoring, with knocks of 248 off 225 balls and 186 off 170. In January 2008, he was picked in Pakistan's Under-19 team for the World Cup in Malaysia. He was the leading run-getter - with 255 runs at a strike-rate of 123.18 - in a tri-nation tournament involving England and Sri Lanka in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Praveen Kumar
Full name: Praveenkumar Sakat SinghPraveen Kumar
Born: October 2, 1986, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh
Major teams: India, Air India, India Red, Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Uttar Pradesh
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm medium
Praveen Kumar had everything to become a domestic cricket legend: limited pace but ability to swing the ball both ways, persistence to bowl long spells, and an almost intuitive knowledge of how to take wickets on unresponsive Indian wickets. But he took his limited pace and remarkably smart application of that ability to a higher level, claiming 10 wickets in four matches in his debut ODI series, including a match-winning spell against Australia in the final of the 2007-08 CB Series. For two seasons before his ODI debut he had been Uttar Pradesh's go-to man in RanjiTrophy. In his first first-class season, also UP's championship season, he was easily the player of the year: 41 wickets and 386 runs, four five-fors, one 10-for, and three half-centuries.

Jamie How
Full name: Jamie Michael HowJamie How
Born: May 19, 1981, New Plymouth, Taranaki
Major teams: New Zealand, Central Districts
Playing role: Top-order batsman
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm medium, Right-arm offbreak
Jamie How stepped up to the full New Zealand side in 2004-05 after some solid performances for Central Districts - 704, 682 and 592 runs in the three seasons from 2002-03. A well-organised opener, more of an accumulator than a dasher, How has a penchant for big scores: after taking a while to find his first-class feet, he scored 163 not out and 158 in consecutive innings in March 2003, against Northern Districts and Canterbury, and started the following season with 169 against Otago. Picked for his one-day debut against Sri Lanka at Queenstown on New Year's Eve, 2005, How ensured his celebrations would go well with a sparky 58, including eight fours and a six, as New Zealand won easily. His first encounter with West Indies resulted in 66 of an opening stand of 136 with Nathan Astle, but his other four one-day innings brought him only 17 runs. He played all three Tests against West Indies, and one in South Africa in May 2006 as a late replacement for the injured Peter Fulton.

Carlton Baugh
Full name: Carlton Seymour BaughCarlton Baugh
Born: June 23, 1982, Kingston, Jamaica
Major teams: West Indies, Jamaica, West Indies B, West Indies Under-19s
Playing role: Wicketkeeper
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Legbreak googly
Fielding position: Wicketkeeper
Relation: Father - C Baugh
Carlton Baugh has struggled to become a regular member of the West Indian team, but he got another opportunity in the Test team in 2010, six years after he had last played one, when the selectors finally ran out of patience with Denesh Ramdin. Baugh is a tidy wicketkeeper, but in an age when wicketkeepers are expected to be above-average batsmen, that aspect of the game has so far held Baugh back.Baugh first got a look-in in the West Indies squad when he wasn't even a regular behind the stumps for Jamaica. His tidy wicketkeeping and explosive lower-order batting earned him a spot in the West Indies squad for the first Test of 2002-03 series against Australia. After impressive displays for the West Indies B Team, Baugh really grabbed the selectors' attention with a quickfire hundred against domestic champions Barbados.

Mashrafe Mortaza
Mashrafe Mortaza
Full name: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza
Born: October 5, 1983, Norail, Jessore
Major teams: Bangladesh, Asia XI, Khulna Division, Kolkata Knight Riders
Also known as: Koushik
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast-medium
Young, quick and aggressive, Mashrafe Mortaza has emerged as the leader of Bangladesh's pack of upcoming young pacemen, although fitness remains a problem. He made great strides under the tutelage of Andy Roberts, working on his stamina, and he was given his first Test cap against Zimbabwe at Dhaka in 2001-02, in what was his first-class debut - indeed by mid-2006 he had played only seven first-class matches outside the Test arena. Though banging it in is his preferred style, Mashrafe proved adept at reining in his attacking instincts to concentrate on line and length. He excelled in the second Test against England in 2003-04, taking 4 for 60 in the first innings to keep Bangladesh in touch, but suffered a twisted knee towards the end of the game that kept him out of Tests for over a year. He was recalled towards the end of 2004, and subsequently enhanced his reputation on the inaugural tour of England, standing head and shoulders above his team-mates in a torrid series

Nathan Hauritz
Full name: Nathan Michael HauritzNathan Hauritz
Born: October 18, 1981, Wondai, Queensland
Major teams: Australia, New South Wales, Queensland
Nickname: Ritzy
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Height: 1.82 m
Nathan Hauritz has been Australia's most improved player of the past couple of years on the way to becoming the country's leading slow bowler. Hauritz gained an unlikely second chance at international level in 2008-09, but quickly grew into an offspinner who could mix attack and defence successfully. He really showed his value last summer when he took 18 wickets in three Tests against Pakistan batsmen who usually cause severe damage to slow bowlers. The haul followed 11 breakthroughs against West Indies and 10 in the opening three Tests of the 2009 Ashes series, when he started strongly but was left out for the final two matches. While a heel injury stopped him from being part of the series against Pakistan in England

Morne Morkel
Full name: Morne MorkelMorne Morkel
Born: October 6, 1984, Vereeniging, Transvaal
Major teams: South Africa, Africa XI, Delhi Daredevils, Easterns, Kent, Rajasthan Royals, Titans, Yorkshire
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast
Relation: Father - A Morkel, Brother - JA Morkel
Morne Morkel, brother of allrounder Albie, is an out-and-out fast bowler who has the pace and height to trouble the best. Morkel made his first-class debut in 2003-04, and earned promotion to the Nashua Titans in the 2006 domestic season. A certain Allan Donald marked him out as national potential with good words for the lanky fast bowler's ability to extract bounce and bowl genuinely fast.Morkel sat out of much of the 2005 season due to injury, but excelled in a fast bowling camp organised by the South African board under Donald's watchful eye. Critics have had little to say against him, and both his attitude and physical strength were seen as plus points.

Full name: Asad ShafiqAsad Shafiq
Born: January 28, 1986, Karachi, Sind
Major teams: Pakistan, Karachi Blues, Karachi Dolphins, Karachi Whites, Karachi Whites, Karachi Zebras, North West Frontier Province, North West Frontier Province Panthers, Pakistan A, Pakistan Cricket Academy, Sind, Sind Dolphins
Playing role: Middle-order batsman
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Legbreak
Fielding position: Wicketkeeper
A right-hand top order batsman, Asad Shafiq is a product of the Karachi tape ball circuit. He stormed the first-class scene in his debut season in 2007-08, scoring a double-hundred. He fell short of thousand runs that season, but attained the milestone two seasons later, when he scored 1244 runs in 12 games at 49.76. He made an impact as a limited-overs player in 2008-09, when he scored 379 runs in seven games at 54.14. The national selectors had earmarked him as one for the future in meetings and he was rewarded him with a call-up for the Asia Cup in 2010.

Major teams: India, Baroda, India Green, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Relation: Half-brother - IK Pathan
Yusuf Pathan first made his mark as a hard-hitting batsman and
offspinner for the Baroda Under-16 team in the Vijay Merchant Trophy in
1999-2000. His impressive showings saw him quickly climb the rungs to
the Baroda U-19 and the West Zone U-19 sides. He made his Ranji debut
against Saurashtra in 2001-02, but it wasn't until the 2004-05 season,
by when younger brother Irfan Pathan was donning the national colours,
that he established himself as a regular in the Baroda squad. Pathan
ended the 2004-05 season as Baroda's fourth-highest scorer and
third-highest wicket-taker.

Ian Bell
Full name Ian Ronald BellIan Bell
Born April 11, 1982, Walsgrave, Coventry, Warwickshire
Major teams England, England Lions, England Under-19s, Marylebone Cricket Club, Warwickshire, Warwickshire Cricket Board
Nickname Belly
Playing role Top-order batsman
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Right-arm medium
Height 5 ft 10 in
Education Princethorpe College, Rugby
Relation Brother - KD Bell
Once described by Dayle Hadlee as the best 16-year old he had ever seen, Ian Bell had been earmarked for greatness long before he was drafted onto the England tour of New Zealand in 2001-02, as cover for the injured Mark Butcher.Technically sound, Bell is a top-order batsman very much in the mould of Michael Atherton, who was burdened with similar expectations when he made his England debut a generation ago. Unlike Atherton, who invariably produced his best when his back was firmly against the wall, Bell's most fluent efforts tended to come about in a pressure vacuum, a trait that belied an average hovering around the 40 mark, and a record of a century every five or so Tests.

Playing role Wicketkeeper batsman
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Right-arm medium
Fielding position Wicketkeeper
Relation Father - SJ McCullum, Brother - NL McCullum
Brash, brutal and brilliant to watch, Brendon McCullum can bruise bowling attacks like few other men in international cricket. A wicketkeeper-batsman, McCullum has been used as an opener in the shorter formats and lower down in Tests, but whenever he arrives at the crease it's impossible to look away. He muscles balls over both sides of the field and was responsible for getting the IPL off to an electrifying start, lighting up the tournament's first match with 158 and showing what the format had to offer. He also became the second man, after Chris Gayle, to score a Twenty20 international century when he brazenly scooped 155kph offerings from Shaun Tait and Dirk Nannes over the wicketkeeper's head in Christchurch in 2009-10.

He also finished as the Netherlands' leading wicket taker in the tournament.By then he was already known to followers of country cricket after Essex discovered him during a pre-season tour in 2003. Tim Bresnan
Full name Timothy Thomas BresnanTim Bresnan
Born February 28, 1985, Pontefract, Yorkshire
Major teams England, England Lions, England Under-19s, Marylebone Cricket Club, Yorkshire
Nickname Brezy Lad, Brez
Playing role Allrounder
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Right-arm medium-fast
Height 6 ft 0 in
Education Castleford High School, Pontefract New College
A powerfully built allrounder, Tim Bresnan had been tipped for higher honours since he became the youngest player in 20 years to represent Yorkshire when he debuted in 2001. It was nearly a decade later that he really announced his arrival in the big-time, however, with a phenomenal performance in the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne in December 2010. Called into the side as a replacement for Steven Finn, and with a remit to keep the runs down, he starred with a performance of skill, pace and unrelenting accuracy. First, he played a key role in bowling Australia out for 98 in the first innings, then he sealed England's successful defence of the Ashes with 4 for 50 in the second innings.

Full name Cameron Leon WhiteCameroon White
Born August 18, 1983, Bairnsdale, Victoria
Major teams Australia, Australia A, Deccan Chargers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Somerset, Victoria
Nickname Whitey, Bear
Playing role Middle-order batsman
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Legbreak googly
Height 1.87 m
Fair-haired and level-headed, Cameron White has long seemed destined to play a significant role for Australia. At the start of his career it was hard to know whether he would develop into a nagging legspinner, aggressive middle-order bat, intuitive skipper, or a bit of all three. After being tried as a Test leggie in India in 2008, he developed into a destructive stroke-maker in the shorter formats, and his maturity was recognised in his appointment as Australia's Twenty20 vice-captain.Just as White's flame appeared to be going out at international level, he burst to life in 2009. An ODI fill-in for Ricky Ponting at No.3, he scored 105 against England in an innings that provided satisfaction and resulted in immense self-belief.

Amit Mishra
Full name Amit MishraAmit Mishra
Born November 24, 1982, Delhi
Major teams India, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Haryana, India Blue
Playing role Bowler
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Legbreak
A confident and attacking cricketer, Amit Mishra first caught the eye while tormenting the England Under-19 tourists early in 2001 with big legbreaks and the odd fizzing googly. Mishra, at his best on dry pitches, rapidly became an integral cog in Haryana's Ranji Trophy side, taking wickets by the bagful in typically Indian conditions. Mishra was called into a large Indian squad for the West Indies series at home in October 2002, but was disappointed not to be given a chance. The absence of several senior players after the World Cup led to another call-up for the TVS Cup in Dhaka in April 2003. Since then, though, he has dropped off the selectors' radar, only resurfacing in 2007, when called up to the A team to take on South Africa A in two four-day matches at home. He ended the 2007 first-class season with an impressive 46 wickets in 11 games.

Born January 13, 1982, Lahore, Punjab

Playing role Wicketkeeper batsman
Batting style Right-hand bat
Fielding position Wicketkeeper
Relation Brother - Adnan Akmal, Brother - Umar Akmal
Kamran Akmal may well be the most emphatic proof of cricket's changed priorities post Adam Gilchrist. Sides now search for an explosive batsman who can change a day, an innings, a phase with the bat and so long as you can identify right wicketkeeping glove from left, the place is yours. There has been little doubt about Akmal's batting. The purity of his drives and the strength of his cutting and pulling, particularly on slower subcontinent surfaces, has always held a strong allure. And when it comes together as it did one January morning in Karachi against India - one of the Test innings of that decade - he makes it in the side as a batsman alone.
