Chris Tremlett
Chris Tremlett
England
Full name: Christopher Timothy Tremlett
Born: September 2, 1981, Southampton, Hampshire
Major teams: England, ECB National Academy, England Lions, Hampshire, Hampshire Cricket Board, Surrey
Nickname: Twiggy
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm medium-fast
Height: 6 ft 7 in
Education: Taunton's College, Southampton
Relation: Grandfather - MF Tremlett, Father - TM Tremlett
Test debut: England v India at Lord's, Jul 19-23, 2007
ODI debut: England v Bangladesh at Nottingham, Jun 21, 2005
Chris Tremlett, a strapping fast bowler at 6ft 7ins, comes from an esteemed cricketing family. He is the son of Tim Tremlett, the former Hampshire seamer, and the grandson of Maurice, who played for Somerset and England in the 1940s and 50s. However, Tremlett junior hasn't needed any family favours in his progression. On his first-class debut against New Zealand A in 2000, he took a wicket with his first ball and ended up with 4 for 16. After impressing for Hampshire in both the four-day and the one-day game, he made the England Under-19 tour of India in 2000-01, and then earned a place in the first batch of Rod Marsh's academy intakes in 2001-02.

Ryan Harris
AustraliaRyan Harris
Full name:Ryan James Harris
Born:October 11, 1979, Sydney, New South Wales
Major teams: Australia, Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab, Queensland, South Australia, Surrey, Sussex, Yorkshire
Nickname: Ryano
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast
Height: 5 ft 10 in
Test debut:
New Zealand v Australia at Wellington, Mar 19-23, 2010
ODI debut:
Australia v South Africa at Hobart, Jan 18, 2009
T20I debut:
Australia v West Indies at Sydney, Feb 23, 2010
An eye-catching fast-bowling allrounder, Ryan Harris sprung on to the
international stage in 2009-10, a season which he initially feared would
be a write-off. Harris was forced to have knee surgery in the lead-up
to the summer and almost needed a second operation before benefitting
from injuries to Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus.

Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara
Full name:Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara
Born:October 27, 1977, Matale
Major teams: Sri Lanka, Asia XI, Central Province, Colombo District Cricket Association, Deccan Chargers, ICC World XI, Kandurata, Kings XI Punjab, Marylebone Cricket Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Warwickshire
Playing role: Wicketkeeper batsman
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Fielding position: Wicketkeeper
As soon as he broke into the side at the age of 22, while a law student,
it was apparent that Kumar Sangakkara was destined for more than just
batting stardom. The left-handers that had preceded him, like Arjuna
Ranatunga and Asanka Gurusinha, had been pugnacious battlers but
Sangakkara was cut from more graceful cloth, easing into strokes with
the elegance often associated with those that play with the 'other'
hand. The cut and the pull came naturally to him and with growing
confidence, he became a more assured front-foot player as well.

Gautam Gambhir
Full name: Gautam GambhirGautam Gambhir
Born October 14, 1981, Delhi
Major teams: India, Delhi, Delhi Daredevils, India Red, Indian Board President's XI, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Cricket Association President's XI
Playing role: Top-order batsman
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Legbreak
Feisty and firm, capricious and correct, insatiable and insecure, Gautam
Gambhir is one of the most complete batsmen of the current era. He is
adept at opening in all three forms of the game. He can be more
aggressive than Virender Sehwag, he can play the kind of
back-to-the-wall innings that would do Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman
proud, and he can accumulate without taking any risks, much like Sachin
Tendulkar has been doing in the last quarter of his career.

Shahid Afridi
Full name:Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi
Born: March 1, 1980
Major teams: Pakistan, Asia XI, Deccan Chargers, Fly Emirates XI, Griqualand West, Habib Bank Limited, ICC World XI, Karachi, Leicestershire, South Australia
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Legbreak googly
Relation:
Brother Tariq Afridi,
Brother -Ashfaq Afridi
For a start, the slant of his all-round skills only became clear ten
years into his career; he is a leg-spinning allrounder. Variety is his
calling and as well as a traditional leg-break, he has two googlies, a
conventional offie and a lethal faster one, though this is increasingly
rare. All come with the threat of considerable, late drift. He fairly
hustles through overs, which in limited-over formats is a weapon in
itself and the package is dangerous.

Jacques Kallis
Full name: Jacques Henry KallisJacques Kallis
Born: October 16, 1975, Pinelands, Cape Town, Cape Province
Major teams: South Africa, Africa XI, Cape Cobras, Glamorgan, ICC World XI, Kolkata Knight Riders, Middlesex, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Warriors, Western Province
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast-medium
No batsman prizes his wicket more highly, and no wicket in all of cricket is more highly prized. Jacques Kallis is the broad-shouldered colossus of the South African team, a figure whose looming presence inspires calm in some and dread in others. Few players who belong to the modern age are a better fit for the notion of the classical cricketer. Kallis is a fine, forceful batsman who has at his disposal both a rock-solid technique and a mind impervious to distraction. Though his role as a bowler diminishes with each passing season, he will be remembered as a purveyor of sometimes surprising pace and swing, and awkward bounce. In the slips, his sure-handedness and rattlesnake reflexes make ridiculous catches look regulation.

Daniel Vettori
Full name: Daniel Luca VettoriDaniel Vettori
Born: January 27, 1979, Auckland
Major teams: New Zealand, Delhi Daredevils, ICC World XI, Northern Districts, Nottinghamshire, Queensland, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Warwickshire
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Slow left-arm orthodox
Relation: Uncle - AJ Hill, Cousin - JV Hill
Daniel Vettori has been on the international scene so long it is sometimes hard to believe he has only recently crossed into his thirties. The youngest man to play Test cricket for New Zealand, at the age of 18, he is one of only eight players to have managed the double of 300 Test wickets and 3000 runs. With time on his side, he could one day creep up towards Hadlee's 431 Test dismissals, but to do that Vettori would need to avoid the stress fractures in his back that troubled him earlier in his career. He also cannot afford another form slump like the one he suffered in 2003-04.

Fidel Edwards
Full name: Fidel Henderson EdwardsFidel Edwards
Born: February 6, 1982, Gays, St Peter, Barbados
Major teams: West Indies, Barbados, Deccan Chargers
Also known: as Castro
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast
Relation: Half-brother - PT Collins
Fidel Edwards had an extraordinary international beginning, the kind that can either haunt or add lustre to a career. Spotted in the nets by Brian Lara, Edwards was called up for his Test debut after just one match for Barbados, and promptly took five wickets against Sri Lanka in Jamaica in June 2003. He added five in his first overseas Test, and six in his first one-day international. With a round-arm action not unlike Jeff Thomson's, which has left him vulnerable to back strains, he is more of a protégé of his neighbour Corey Collymore than his half-brother Pedro Collins. He bowls fast, can swing the ball and get reverse swing, but insists that he doesn't go for out-and-out pace.

Shakib Al Hasan
BangladeshShakib Al Hasan
Full name: Shakib Al Hasan
Born: March 24, 1987, Magura, Jessore
Major teams: Bangladesh, Bangladesh A, Bangladesh Cricket Board XI, Khulna Division, Kolkata Knight Riders, Worcestershire
Also known as: Saqibul Hasan
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Slow left-arm orthodox
Shakib Al Hasan is a left-arm spinner and talented batsman, who ensured his place in the Bangladesh squad for the U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka with a blistering performance in the final of the tri-nations U-19 ODI tournament in Bangladesh. Firstly, he took 3 for 39 in the Sri Lankan innings and then scored 100 to guide Bangladesh to victory. Although primarily selected for his bowling, he has shown great potential with the bat. As well as the century, he has scored two half-centuries and has an Afridi-style strike rate of more than 106. Hasan made his one-day debut in the final match against Zimbabwe in July 2006. He scored an unbeaten 30 and helped steer Bangladesh to victory. Since then Hasan has proved to be an asset to his team. He scored his maiden ODI hundred, against Canada in a tri-series before the 2007 World Cup

23 June 2011
Full name: Simon Mathew Katich
Born: August 21, 1975, Middle Swan, Western Australia
Major teams: Australia, Derbyshire, Durham, Hampshire, Kings XI Punjab, New South Wales, Western Australia, Yorkshire
Nickname: Kat
Playing role: Batsman
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Slow left-arm chinaman
Height: 1.82 m
With an unconventional style and a get-your-gloves-dirty approach, Simon Katich proves you don't have to be fashionable to be successful. His walk-across-the-stumps technique isn't as crabby as Shivnarine Chanderpaul's, and he is scrawny next to Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson, but Katich has been a must-have man at the top of Australia's order in the second stage of his career.

Rahul Dravid
Full name: Rahul Sharad DravidRahul Dravid
Born: January 11, 1973, Indore, Madhya Pradesh
Major teams: India, Scotland, Asia XI, ICC World XI, Karnataka, Kent, Marylebone Cricket Club, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore
Nickname: The Wall
Playing role: Top-order batsman
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Fielding position: Occasional wicketkeeper
Education: St. Joseph's Boys' High School
Rahul Dravid is probably one of the last classical Test match batsmen. His progress into the national side may have been steady and methodical rather than meteoric, but once there, Dravid established himself at the vanguard of a new, defiant generation that were no longer easybeats away from home. Armed with an orthodox technique drilled into him by Keki Tarapore, he became the cement that held the foundations firm while the flair players expressed themselves. Yet, for a man quickly stereotyped as one-paced and one-dimensional, he too could stroke the ball around when the mood struck him.

Tilkaratne Dilshan
Tilkaratne Dilshan
Full name: Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan
Born: October 14, 1976, Kalutara
Major teams: Sri Lanka, Asia XI, Basnahira South, Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, Delhi Daredevils, Kalutara Town Club, Northern Districts, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sebastianites Cricket and Athletic Club, Singha Sports Club
Also known as: Tuwan Mohamad Dilshan
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Fielding position: Wicketkeeper
Relation: Brother - TN Sampath
With his relentless aggression, strong wrists and natural timing, Tillakaratne Dilshan is one of the most exciting batsmen in the game today. He is technically sound, but, much like Virender Sehwag, he uses the defensive option only as a last resort, after all the attacking alternatives have been explored. He loves to make room and thrash the ball through the off side, but the stroke that bears his signature more than any other is the one he developed for the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 - the eponymously named "Dilscoop" shot over his head, which confounded bowlers and experts alike.

Abdur Razzak
Full name: Abdur RazzakAbdur Razzak
Born: June 15, 1982, Khulna
Major teams:: Bangladesh, Asia XI, Khulna Division, Royal Challengers Bangalore
Also known as: Raj
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Slow left-arm orthodox
The latest in Bangladesh's seemingly never-ending supply of left-arm spinners, Abdur Razzaq (no relation to the similarly named Pakistan allrounder) made his mark when he helped unheralded Khulna to their first-ever National Cricket League title in 2001-02.Tall, with a high action, he was also instrumental in Victoria Sporting Club's surprise triumph in the 2002-03 Dhaka Premier Division. He was given his A-team debut during the five-match one-day series against Zimbabwe early in 2004, and took the opportunity well with 15 wickets.

Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle
Full name:Christopher Henry Gayle
Born:September 21, 1979, Kingston, Jamaica
Major teams: West Indies, ICC World XI, Jamaica, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Stanford Superstars, Western Australia, Worcestershire
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
A thrusting Jamaican left-hander, Gayle earned himself a black mark on
his first senior tour - to England in 2000 - where the new boys were
felt to be insufficiently respectful of their elders. But a lack of
respect, for opposition bowlers at least, has served Gayle well since
then. Tall and imposing at the crease, he loves to carve through the
covers off either foot, and has the ability to decimate the figures of
even the thriftiest of opening bowlers.

Kyle Mills
Full name: Kyle David MillsKyle Mills
Born: March 15, 1979, Auckland
Major teams: New Zealand, Auckland, Kings XI Punjab, Lincolnshire, Mumbai Indians
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast-medium
Injuries at an inopportune time affected Kyle Mills's prospects of making a more significant start to his international career. While he was recovering, Shane Bond, Ian Butler and Jacob Oram seized their opportunities, making it harder for Mills to force his way back. In and out of the team after the 2003 World Cup in which he made only one fleeting, wicketless appearance - he marked another comeback, against Pakistan in 2003-04, by picking up a reprimand for excessive appealing. However, he did enough to earn a call-up for the tour of England in 2004, and made his Test debut in the third match at Trent Bridge. But he picked up a side strain during the game, and was forced to fly home and miss the NatWest Series. That was a shame, as one-day cricket is really his forte: he played throughout the 2005-06 season, chipping in with wickets in almost every game, even if his once-promising batting had diminished to the point that he managed double figures only once in 16 matches.

Full name: Umar GulUmar Gul
Born: April 14, 1984, Peshawar, North-Western Frontier Province
Major teams: Pakistan, Gloucestershire, Habib Bank Limited, Kolkata Knight Riders, North West Frontier Province, North West Frontier Province Panthers, Pakistan A, Pakistan International Airlines, Peshawar, Peshawar Panthers, Sussex, Western Australia
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast-medium
The least-hyped but most successful and assured Pakistan pace product of the last few years, Umar Gul is the latest in Pakistan's assembly-line of pace-bowling talent. He had played just nine first-class matches when called up for national duty in the wake of Pakistan's poor 2003 World Cup. On the flat tracks of Sharjah, Gul performed admirably, maintaining excellent discipline and getting appreciable outswing with the new ball.He isn't express but bowls a very quick heavy ball and his exceptional control and ability to extract seam movement marks him out. Further, his height enables him to extract bounce on most surfaces and from his natural back of a length, it is a useful trait.

Born: February 1, 1981, Johannesburg, Transvaal
Major teams: South Africa, Africa XI, Cape Cobras, Gauteng, Hampshire Cricket Board, ICC World XI, Pune Warriors, Rajasthan Royals, Somerset, Western Province
Playing role: Opening batsman
Batting style: Left-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
Meaty, muscular and mighty, that's Graeme Smith, who looms even larger than all that as South Africa's colossus of a captain. His achievements as a batsman are significant, but the most important monument to his career is the fact that under Smith, the confidence of South Africans, both within and outside of the national team and its structures, has been rebuilt.Smith's leadership and his batting are all about being direct and upfront.

Born: September 2, 1988, Delhi
Major teams: India, Deccan Chargers, Delhi, India Red, Kolkata Knight Riders, North Zone
Playing role: Bowler
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm fast-medium
With a physique and attitude that is reminiscent of a young Javagal Srinath, Ishant Sharma shot into prominence during the 2007-08 Test series in Australia. Standing at 6'4", his rhythmic, high-arm action allowed him to bowl at around 140 kph. For one who started serious cricket at 14, his rise was rapid and he made his Ranji Trophy debut at 18. An injury to Munaf Patel provided him an opening during India's tour of Bangladesh in May 2007 but it was in Australia where he caught the attention, prompting Steve Waugh to call him the next best thing in Indian cricket. He showed he could move the ball both ways and his probing spell in the second innings in Perth, where he set-up Ricky Ponting, is the stuff of folklore.

Born: April 11, 1982, Walsgrave, Coventry, Warwickshire
Major teams: England, England Lions, England Under-19s, Marylebone Cricket Club, Warwickshire, Warwickshire Cricket Board
Nickname: Belly
Playing role: Top-order batsman
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm medium
Height: 5 ft 10 in
Education: Princethorpe College, Rugby
Relation; Brother - KD Bell
Once described by Dayle Hadlee as the best 16-year old he had ever seen, Ian Bell had been earmarked for greatness long before he was drafted onto the England tour of New Zealand in 2001-02, as cover for the injured Mark Butcher.Technically sound, Bell is a top-order batsman very much in the mould of Michael Atherton, who was burdened with similar expectations when he made his England debut a generation ago. Unlike Atherton, who invariably produced his best when his back was firmly against the wall, Bell's most fluent efforts tended to come about in a pressure vacuum

Muhammad Hafeez
Full name: Mohammad HafeezMuhammad Hafeez
Born: October 17, 1980, Sargodha, Punjab
Major teams: Pakistan, Faisalabad, Faisalabad Wolves, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sargodha, Sui Gas Corporation of Pakistan
Playing role: Allrounder
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Right-arm offbreak
An opening batsman and a handy offspin bowler, Hafeez was one of the young players that the Pakistan selectors turned to after the team's abysmal display in the 2003 World Cup. His performances in Sharjah and in the NatWest Challenge in England indicated that Hafeez could well be a long-term prospect - he showed good technique and temperament at the top of the order and bowled his offspinners tidily, but most impressive was his performance in the field. Patrolling the point and covers region with feverish alertness, he saved plenty of runs and pulled off an amazing catch. His organised approach towards batting ensured that he got an opportunity in the Test team in the three-Test series against Bangladesh. He didn't do badly either, scoring a half-century on debut, and then stroking his first hundred in his second Test.

Born: April 2, 1981, Liverpool, New South Wales
Major teams: Australia, Hampshire, New South Wales
Nickname: Pup, Clarkey
Playing role: Middle-order batsman
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Slow left-arm orthodox
Height: 1.78 m
As a young man Michael Clarke could do anything with the bat, but he has matured into one of the game's most professional, reliable and focussed players. Clarke learned a year into his Test career that he had to shed the flourishes that made him a golden child in order to shine consistently at elite level. Breathtaking centuries on debut away and at home stamped him as a shot-maker to savour, but he is now a calculated player who is his country's most effective run-maker in the five-day game.
