Phil hughes marked his return to the XI in fine style on other hand Micheal Clarke continued his rich run of form. Watson and Cowan failed to make an impact whereas David Warner after fighting 57 was needlessly run out. Hussey and Clarke steered Aussies throug the day safely to reach stumps at 4 for 299. So in all Australia day 1 was gud enough, but by the standards set in the SA series, a some what muted one.
