India win the Emerging Tournament
First topic message reminder :
Carters ton denies India victory
A battling century from captain Ryan Carters helped Australian Institute of Sport force a draw against India Emerging Players at Endeavour Park No.2
in Townsville. However, India finished on top in the points table,
thereby capping a successful series for them - they were also victorious
in the Twenty20 tournament that preceded the three-day games.
Ryan Carters' 115 helped Australia earn a draw
Australia ended the second day at 93 for 2, still 236 runs adrift of
India. Carters, who was unbeaten overnight on 56, continued to look
solid. He and Glenn Maxwell had added 65 before stumps on day two, and
they carried on the good work on the final day, adding a further 55
before Maxwell was dismissed for 73. Any hopes that India might have had
of causing a collapse were dented as Tim Armstrong joined his captain
and the duo put on 87 for the fourth wicket. Carters was finally
dismissed for 115, but Armstrong (75) featured in handy partnerships for
the fifth and sixth wickets to deny India a win, as Australia ended the
day on 328 for 7.
Reeza Hendricks completed his double-century and Richard Levi reached a century but South Africa Emerging Players were not left with enough time to bowl New Zealand A out at Endeavour Park in Townsville.
South Africa's only hope of notching up their first win of the
three-day leg of the tournament was to score quickly on the final day
and then hope for a New Zealand collapse. But Hendricks and Levi took
their time, and South Africa used up 54.2 overs in the day to get 177
runs, which put them 169 runs ahead. New Zealand lost two wickets in the
34 overs they had to bat.
Hendricks' 218 was his second double-century of the tournament and his
566-run aggregate earned him the Batsman-of-the-Tournament as well as
the Player-of the-Tournament awards. India's Iqbal Abdulla was named
Bowler of the Tournament for his nine wickets.

'Dumped' Kamran Akmal may make comeback in Bangladesh series: Sources
Islamabad, Apr 17(ANI): Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal may make a comeback to the ODI and Twenty20 squad this month in the home series against Bangladesh.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources told the Daily Times that Kamran, who has been out of favour since the 2011 World Cup, was allowed to train with the Pakistan team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore after the board gave clearance.
"PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf has finally cleared Kamran to be considered for national selection. That is why he is now training with the Pakistani players at the NCA," a source said.
"Kamran has now also been cleared on the integrity form, and given that he has regularly been playing domestic cricket and performing pretty consistently, he is now in line to be considered for the one ODI and one Twenty20 against Bangladesh later this month in Lahore," the source confirmed.
Kamran had not been cleared by the board to be considered for selection in the national team since after the World Cup.
The PCB had also raised suspicions about his integrity after three Pakistan cricketers the Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir were jailed for their involvement in the spot-fixing scandal.
Kamran recently also played in the Bangladesh Premier League for the Sylhet team

BCCI says no to Pak’s ‘home’ series in India
New Delhi: The Indian cricket board has flatly refused to stage Pakistan’s ‘home’ bilateral series with other countries, saying that apart from the prevailing political issues, a commercial aspect was also a reason for rejecting the request.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf made the unprecedented request to BCCI president N Srinivasan, during an International Cricket Council executive board meeting in Dubai last week, if his Board could stage such matches in future.
While accepting that he met Ashraf, Srinivasan said he would not comment on the issue. “I did meet him in Dubai, but I have no comments to make on this,” Srinivasan told MAIL TODAY on his return from Dubai.
He also declined to comment on the resumption of the long-discontinued India-Pakistan bilateral series.
Pakistan has not hosted any home bilateral series against any country since March 2009, when a bus carrying the Sri Lankan team was attacked in Lahore. No player died in the accident, but some were injured.
Since then Pakistan has played several of its ‘home’ bilateral series in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and England.

A top BCCI official, who is aware of the discussion between Srinivasan and Ashraf in Dubai, said that apart from the mandatory government permission to host a Pakistani team, the Indian Board would also not allow the revenue generated from such a series to be taken outside the country.
"Look at the meaning of hosting a ‘home’ series of Pakistan in India. It means that the income from the media rights of a Pakistan’s ‘home’ series would go to them, and not come to us,” he said.
“We’ll get nothing out of it.” Apart from the monetary aspect, providing security to Pakistani players as well as their opponents, would also be a huge exercise for the Indian security forces.

Dravid: Create a window for the IPL
Former Indian batsman Rahul Dravid feels that the Indian Premier League is a reality that the world must accept, and that a window for the Indian T20 league was necessary, so that all the best players in the world could take part.
Speaking to Jonathan Agnew on BBC’s Test Match Special during the third Test between England and South Africa at Lord’s, Dravid said, “When the top players play, people will watch the IPL. But the game’s also the loser when these stars don’t play Test cricket. There must be give and take between the two, for which a window may be needed.”
When asked about the IPL’s role in the showdown between Kevin Pietersen and the ECB, Dravid was not sure if the tournament alone was the reason for the breakdown in the English player’s relationship with his board. He however agreed that the IPL would clash with the start of the English season, adding that Test cricket needed names like Chris Gayle and Kevin Pietersen.
Dravid who is in London to attend the MCC Cricket Committee meeting, also said that administrators must keep Test cricket relevant, “There are no issues with players like Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who have dreamt of playing Test cricket. The problem may arise with the next generation of cricketers, who have grown up watching the IPL. Administrators must talk to them about the longest format. It will be sad if they chose to ignore Test cricket.”
On his experience in the IPL, Dravid felt that travel during the tournament was hard but added that there wasn’t too much physical exertion on the field, when compared to playing a Test match or a one-day international.
