Re: ICC CRICKET WEEKLY
Sri Lankan Premier League Delayed:
Sri Lanka Cricket has admitted that India's decision to withdraw its players from the Sri Lanka Premier League effectively pulled the plug on the tournament."Honestly, we are finding it difficult to have the Premier League without India's support," SLC spokesman Brian Thomas told cricket365.com. "We can't get into more debt."Thomas' confirmation came after two South African players linked to the tournament - Herschelle Gibbs and Davy Jacobs - told ESPNcricinfo that they had been informed of the one-year deferral. On Friday, the agent for Lonwabo Tsotosbe said he'd received similar information from Somerset Entertainment Ventures, the league's organisers. India's boycott deprived the tournament of a broadcaster for the lucrative Indian market, making it unviable at a time when SLC is going through financial instability. Adding to the sense of confusion was last week's dissolution of the SLC committee that had created the tournament, and its replacement by a new panel.

Rishabh Leaves Champions To Play For Titans:
Rishabh Tandon leaves his team The Champions and joins the Supreme Titans as their new wicket-keeper and vice-captain.But his inclusion did not help the Titans as they slipped to their 2nd consecutive loss in the season. They were defeated by the Cosmos who dismissed the ST within their 20 overs and reached their target within 11 overs

Iain O'Brien admits suffering from depression :
Iain O'Brien, the New Zealand seamer, has joined a growing list of cricketers who have admitted to suffering from depression. O'Brien chose his 35th birthday to tell the Sunday Star Times how depression has plagued him his entire career. He said he had hidden the illness, despite being aware of it, until earlier this year, when listening to a BBC radio programme hosted by former England captain Michael Vaughan, dealing with the topic of depression in cricket, convinced him to seek help."Listening to that show was when I realised that it was probably time to go and get it sorted," he said. "How have I got through to now without doing anything about it? It's different for everyone. But I think I bullied myself into doing things and trying to live 'normally'."

Ijaz Butt rules out Afridi's captaincy future:
PCB chairman Ijaz Butt has ruled out a return to captaincy for Shahid Afridi in the future, though he left a window open for him to return to the national side as a player."As far as I am concerned he is not captaincy material for the PCB anymore," Butt told Geo Super television channel. "[As a player] he has done well in the past, he's been a good cricketer for Pakistan, there's no doubt about it."In May, Afridi publicly announced his "conditional" retirement from the game in protest against his "humiliation" at the PCB's hands, but was ready to reverse his decision if a new board came to power. The PCB responded by suspending his national contract and refusing to issue No-Objection Certificates (NOC) to allow Afridi to ply his trade in domestic Twenty20 leagues.

Sydney Thunder sign Khawaja:
In a somewhat bizarre turn of events, the Sydney Thunder have announced the signing of Usman Khawaja a day after another Big Bash franchise, the Perth Scorchers, claimed to have signed him.According to the AAP, the Scorchers were under the impression that they had reached an agreement with Khawaja's management on July 6 but were subsequently told that the player was still considering his options and could join another BBL team closer to his Sydney home.Andrew Scotford, the WACA cricket manager, said there had been a "miscommunication" with Khawaja before the batsman left for Zimbabwe to join the Australia A tour, which is why they were forced to backtrack on claiming they had signed him on Friday

Cook shows captaincy credentials:
If Alastair Cook really meant it when he said he wasn't motivated "to prove anyone wrong" then he has a strange way of going about things. A 3-2 victory and a Man-of-the-Series award concluded a four-day period that couldn't have gone much better for Cook.A series defeat against Sri Lanka, the World Cup runners-up, wouldn't have been calamitous for Cook, especially if he'd made the runs he did, but the pressure would have been increased a few notches. Now, though, he has his second one-day trophy as ODI captain following the win in Bangladesh last year and can look forward with confidence to the challenges ahead after a period back under Andrew Strauss's leadership in the Test team.

India matches key to Pakistan's future:
Pakistan's future as an international cricket team could hinge on the willingness of India to resume bilateral relations, according to a source close to the ICC Pakistan Task Team, which recently published a 38-page report into the future of the game in the country. The PTT, which was headed up by the ECB chairman Giles Clarke and drew on the experience of three former Test captains in Ramiz Raja, Mike Brearley and Greg Chappell, presented its findings at the ICC's annual conference in Hong Kong last week. The report addressed a number of wide-ranging issues, from the quality of ball used in domestic cricket to the structure of the Pakistan Cricket Board itself.
