Chennai to host IPL Player Auction 2013
Proceedings to be telecast live on Sony Six on Feb 3 from 11am IST

The Australian duo Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting will go under the hammer with highest reserve price of $400,000 (approx Rs.2 crore).

Clarke played for Pune Warriors India in IPL 2012 after they bought him
on a one-year contract outside of the auction. Ponting was part of the
inaugural IPL season, in 2008, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. He was
released by the franchise in 2010.

IPL 2013 auction date was discussed in by the IPL council. It would be held on the 3rd February 2013 in Chennai starting at 11 am. Sony is the official ipl auction live streaming 2013 broadcast provider in India.

The Indian Premier League today (Jan 30, 2013) announced the list of 101 players who will go under the hammer for the ipl player auction this season.

The highest reserve price among them went to Michael Clarke and Ricky
Ponting of Australia, both of who will be paid at least $400,000 if
they were selected. Of course their salaries could go far higher if they
were bid for during the 2013 ipl auction.

Apart from Australians and South Africans there are seven players
from India and a couple from England who will be bid for as well. The
Indians who are a part of this auction are Abhishek Nayar, RP Singh,
Sudeep Tyadi, Manpreet Gony, Jaidev Unadkat and Wasim Jaffer. Both
Jaffer and Nayar had an excellent Ranji Trophy season and it remains to
be seen whether that good form will be converted into the high-paying
bucks of IPL for them.

The two English cricketers involved in the IPL auction are Matt Prior
and Ravi Bopara while Kevin O’Brien is the only player from non Test
playing nation to make it to the list.

Darren Sammy has put his name in the auction for the first time and
his base price is $100,000. Other players from West Indies include likes
of Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Devendra
Bishoo, V Permaul, Ricardo Powell, Kieran Powell, Danza Hyatt, Tino Best
and Jerome Taylor.

Johan Botha of South Africa is the only player who has a reserve
price of $300,000 after he was released from the Rajasthan Royals roster
after a poor season. There are nine players with a base price of
$200,000 including Aaron Finch, Herschelle Gibbs, Matt Prior, Matthew
Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Doug Bollinger, Ryan McLaren, Dirk Nannes and John
Hastings.

Each IPL franchise has a salary cap of $12.5 million and can have a
maximum of 33 players in their squad, out of which there can be 11
foreign players. Like previous years, only 4 overseas players can
feature in the playing XI for any match. Fresh all players auction will

Australian captain Michael Clarke and former skipper Ricky Ponting are
likely to attract most attention when the nine franchises sit for the
players' auction of the Indian Premier League 6 on Sunday.

In Clarke, some of the franchises like Mumbai Indians see a potential leader after Harbhajan Singh relinquished the post.

According to IPL sources, Mumbai Indians are likely to loosen their purse strings for the current Aussie captain.

Warriors have a purse of over $3 million and can indulge into a bidding
war for Clarke but according to one of their officials, "It is not
necessary that if you have money, you need to spend it."


Ponting, who played four matches for Kolkata Knight Riders in first
edition of IPL can be an interesting pick considering his performance
for Hobart Hurricanes in the recently concluded Big Bash League. He has
couple of 60 plus scores to show for his effort against Sydney Sixers
and Sydney Thunders.

An official, who has closely been
associated with the auctions, felt that Hyderabad Sun Risers might look
at Ponting as a potential mentor-cum-captain.

"Since this is a
one-season deal, there is no harm in getting Ricky Ponting, who is a
thorough professional. Since Kumar Sangakkara hasn't done too well as
captain and Cameron White is not an automatic choice either, Ponting can
be their Go-To man," he said.

Delhi Daredevils, who have a
team loaded with quality pacers might look at roping in Ajantha Mendis,
who is available at a base price of $50,000.

Chennai Super
Kings is one team, which has a settled look, barring a new ball bowler.
Among the crop of bowlers available, West Indies' Ravi Rampaul can prove
to be a handy customer at a base price of $50,000 as no one has any
idea about Jerome Taylor's current form.

Kings XI Punjab and
Rajasthan Royals are two teams who would be going into the auction with
highest purses (around $6 million) and would have the luxury of bidding
for some of the players of their choice.

Defending champions
Kolkata Knight Riders also has a tea, that looked settled and may not be
very active at the auction which is expected to be a low-key affair.
