Gladiators gets WARNE"D"!
Roaring Warriors 227 all-out (D Dey 67, Gambhir 48, De Villiers 42, Irshad 2-45, Bond 3-46) beat Gladiators (Al Amin 74, T Cooper 53, Warne 4-50) by 1 run
The game started with Warriors winning the toss and choosing to bat first. The pitch seemed like before the start of play, a paradise for bowlers. All things apart, Warriors openers Deep Dey and Ab De Villiers came out to the field with Munaveer Irshad really to bowl the first bowl of World Cup 2012. Things got start off a flier, with both openers looking in fine touch. With over 70 runs up in the first 10 things were looking pretty good for Warriors. Then came Irshad who gladly took the wicket of dangerman De Villers off 42 thanks to a fine catch by Al Amin in the deep. Incomes Nikhil to the crease. Things we looking good a while but then perishes Nikhil for just 14 runs. This put the Warriors dug out in Dilemma. Deep and Gambhir were looking to build a partnership when Deep was caught in the covers by Shane Bond again thanks to the exceptional bowling of M Irshad. After that wickets kept on falling in regular intervals from Warriors. Gambhir was the only man who stood tall against the Gladiators bowling after the performing top order fell. His 48 helped Warriors a lot. They were only able to score 24 mediocre runs in the end. The bowling of Gladiators truly proved that things were easy for bowlers in first innings and easy for batsmen in second half of the game.In the end of the innings, Warriors had 227 in the board which to a lot seemed like a low total and was expected a bit more from the powerhouse batting lineup of Roarers.
The partnership of Deep and De Villiers was the only thing in spotlight for Warriors.
Tom Cooper and Al Amin walked out in the middle to chase down a so called low target in the paradise of Eden Gardens. Things were off to a start seeming like it was a T20 Match going on. Cooper and Al Amin took the hold and carried on. Cooper gladly completed his half century. But here comes the nightmare! Shane Warne ! Warne comes and destroys the 100 runs partnership. Things were still looking good for Gladiators still. But soon perished the glamazon innings of Al Amin. Just after that, none of the Gladiators batsmen could stand tall infront of the bowling attack of Warriors. Some players pitched in, scored few runs and perished. Tato tell was thats happening in the middle for Gladiators. Things went to the 48th over where they were required to score 6 more runs. Things chipped in as Gladiators needed 2 runs to win from 15 balls. But it was upto the untrustable tailenders to finish it off. Unfortunately they weren't able to do that. Gladiators were bowled out for 226 thanks to the great bowling off Aqi,Warne,Philander and the captain himself Mr.Jagan. Sunil Narine kept things tightened up for them.
Valuable contributions from Cooper and Al Amin weren't enough to take their team past the winning line.
Shane Warne for his magical figures of 10 overs 50 Runs and 4 Wickets
