Vettori honoured during Queen's Birthday

Daniel Vettori has been named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit during the Queen's Birthday Honours investiture ceremony in Auckland. The honour is awarded to outstanding people from various fields, which include philanthropy, music, local governance and community service among others. In his citation, Vettori was referred to as one of the world's top left-arm spinners.

"The first time I knew about [the royal honour], it was just a real surprise," Vettori told the New Zealand Herald. "I couldn't get over it.

Injured Malinga out of Twenty20s against Australia

Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lanka fast bowler, has not been picked for the national team's two-match Twenty20 series against Australia, starting August 6 in Pallekele, due to an injury. Malinga was named in the list of 20 probables for the home series, but was left out of the Twenty20s to get back to fitness for the five-match ODI series starting on August 10. Sri Lanka have drafted in uncapped allrounder Shaminda Eranga while Angelo Mathews takes over as vice-captain following the axing of Thilina Kandamby.

The Cosmos- the other name for brilliance. The Cosmos were the inaugural Twenty20 Boom champions. They are all set to host The Warriors in their home in the month of August. The Warriors consists of some of the thrilling cricketers but their performance till date has been very miserable as they ended at 4th position out of 5 teams in the last month. The addition of Gilchrist is a very interesting aspect to be seen. The Cosmos have made 3 changes to their team too and now look even stronger. As many are saying, this might pan out to be tour of the month with big names ready to take the center stage.
